One FABulous Summer
Time flies when you are having fun! The Flint Area Brewers have certainly had a great summer!
JUNE 2018
In early June, we held our first homebrew demonstration as a club on the terrace at the Flint Farmer's Market. We were excited to have MLive contact us for an interview. Read the article, "Flint Area Brewers bring homebrew culture to the community."

Later in the month, we held a club brew day and Dean Condron, Flint Area Brewers President, gave an informative presentation on water chemistry.

JULY 2018
In mid July, we celebrated the release of Curious Haze. As the Gold Medal winner of the Quarterly Hopcraft Supply Co. competition, Kelly Condron was able to brew her beer with Cody Smith on his commercial system at Oracle Brewing Company.

Curious Haze, which is an Apricot NEIPA, has been on tap at Oracle Brewing Company in Saginaw, 8 Degrees Plato in Detroit, Tavern 101 in Bay City, and Whichcraft Taproom in Midland.
For the second-quarter Hopcraft competition, Kelly Condron won a Bronze medal for her Passionfruit-Mango Wheat, Two Can Tango.
On July 14th, the Flint Area Brewers and the Kuhnhenn Guild of Brewers (KGB) met up for a tour and a cookout at Top Hops Farms in Goodrich, Michigan.

We also made and tasted hop teas. Hop tea is exactly what it sounds like. You steep hops in hot water and then drink the result. This is a great method to evaluate the aromas and flavor components of a new hop you've never used.
AUGUST 2018
The month of August was centered around two great events in Michigan for homebrewers:
The Michigan Beer Cup is a state wide tournament, which promotes brewing through education and competition. The Flint Area Brewers were bronze sponsors of this event for sponsoring the Fruit Beer category.
Two of our members received recognition for their entries. Nate Clark brought home a Bronze medal for his Session Pale Ale, "Long Summer."
With a score of 44, Kelly Condron received an honorable mention for her Passionfruit-Mango Wheat, "Two Can Tango."
The Michigan Homebrew Festival (MHF) is a homebrew community focused member event that that fosters education, engagement, and networking for it’s members. Homebrew clubs come from all over our great state to promote their clubs, participate in competitions, sample, and enjoy the finely crafted beverages offered by other clubs, promote the homebrewing hobby, and share their knowledge and appreciation of brewing great beer and mead!

Just a week after the MHF, we met up again with our club for Battle of the Brews in the Lynchpin Beer Co. biergarten at The Laundry in Fenton, MI. Five of our homebrewers applied and were accepted for the Battle of the Brews.
Nathan Clark - BRUTiful IPA, Brut IPA
Dean Condron - Foggy Daze, New England IPA
Josh Linn - Brojito, Lime Mojito Gose
Shayne Medore - Dream Weaver, Orange Creamsicle “Milkshake” IPA
Kelly Toone - Low Rider, American Pale Ale
Although our homebrewers did not place in this event, we had a great time and everyone received great feedback on their brews.
